Seedlight provides simple, easy-to-use digital cameras to children in disadvantaged communities.

We provide tuition, encouragement and the children provide the creativity and inspiration.

We help the children to learn the art of photography. Together, we photograph their world, document their lives and create unique stories.

Photography allows the children to explore their own creativity. It boosts their confidence and self-esteem and enables them to quickly and easily create something long-lasting that they can call their own.

Our first project was launched in two HIV/AIDS orphanages in Ethiopia's capital city of Addis Ababa, where the children continue to document their lives.

In connection with the Kilgoris Project, we have provided a dozen cameras and back-up software and hardware to Masai children in a project that encourages participation from the entire local community.

As a photographer, I've had the considerable good fortune to be able to explore the world in the most extraordinarily rewarding and fulfilling way. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.

In a career which continues to excite, inspire and delight me, I'm frequently reminded that not everybody shares my good fortune and yet, despite the disadvantages that many people face, I've learned that it is often those who have the least who give the most.

I have been treated with humbling hospitality and boundless generosity on my travels. So many people I have met have willingly and graciously shared their time, their friendship, their food, homes, transport and, typically, their smiles.

I want to repay some of the hospitality and generosity that I've been granted. It seems appropriate to put something back into the well.

Seedlight is my way of giving something back.

We are in the process of compiling and editing the children's photographs. Please check back soon for details of further developments on the Seedlight book project.
